From IMDB:
The leader of an Arab Anti-Discrimination group has offered to educate Brad Garrett on different cultures after the actor allegedly made “racial slurs” at a paparazzo.
The Everybody Loves Raymond star was caught on tape shouting at a photographer during a heated argument on Tuesday.
Garrett is apparently unable to understand the snapper, and shouts out that he should be addressed “in English!”
He then begins to point at his head, and is heard instructing the man to “Wear the turban! Wear the turban!”
Now the director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has called for Garrett to take the time to learn about various ethnicities.
Nawar W. Shora tells RadarOnline.com, “We’d be happy to reach out to Mr Garrett and his crew to help educate him about the Arab/Muslim/Sikh communities. Sinking down to racial and ethnic slurs is very disappointing and highlights the need for a greater understanding.
“There’s so many stereotypes there and were at a time and place now where we should be past that.”
Wow. They reject Bin Laden but the Arab/Muslim/Sikh communities are actually claiming the Paparazi as their own. Huh.

Actress Katie Holmes is in mourning following the tragic death of her brother-in-law, according to a new report.Joseph Jeffrey Fretti, the husband of Holmes’ eldest sister Tamera, was found dead on 12 April in his mother Shirley’s home in Sarasota, Florida. He was 48.
A cause of death has yet to be determined but medical examiner Russell Vega tells RadarOnline.com that foul play or suicide are unlikely.
Fretti, the owner of a funeral home in Toledo, Ohio, had taken his two children to visit their grandmother.
Tamera did not accompany her husband on the trip but has since flown to Florida to bring the kids back to the family home in Ohio.
Holmes is expected to attend a funeral for Fretti in Toledo’s Gesu Church on 20 April.
Abort, abort. I repeat, Abort. We’ve lost too many trying to get her back from the Scientologists. Hug your kids, kiss your loved ones, and go into hiding. We’ll meet again when the time is right.

This is sad news for me and the film world. I remember him best from that crappy TimeCop movie, but mostly from his excellent portrayal of himself in Heat Vision and Jack. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a failed pilot directed by Ben Stiller and stars Ron Silver, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Christine Taylor. It was written by those two glorious geniuses Rob Shrab and Dan Harmon. Go torrent it. Any description I can give won’t do it justice. And it’s ok to torrent it since it isn’t available any other way.
Ron Silver died in his sleep after battling with esophageal cancer. He will be missed.

Anyone who knows me has heard me gush about the MiddleMan. It was one of the few shows that I made sure to follow, even when I didn’t have time for it. We always joked that the show was so good, if it had been on FOX, it would’ve been cancelled. Sadly, those jerks at ABC Family did just that. Perhaps the show was another victim of the writer’s strike, or just no promotion (most likely), but one of the most innovative, funny shows was lost last year.
But there is good news, on the MiddleBlog, Javi dropped this exciting news: The MiddleMan DVD is coming in July of 2009! This is one show where I will be buying two copies of the DVD. One for keepsies, another to loan. Because this badboy will be passed around like Andy Dick at a Village People reunion special.

I’ve been looking forward to this movie since reading Survival Guide to Zombies, a brilliant book that equips you for the inevitable Zombie Appocylpse. World War Z is the “real” account of what happened during the above mentioned catastrophe. I haven’t read the book the flick is based on, but I have listened to the audio book and I can’t imagine the book is better. The voice acting is great, as it’s “from those that suffered and experienced” this terrible happening. I remember being very excited hearing that the book was optioned for film by Brad Pitt’s production company before WWZ had even hit the bookshelves. I don’t know how they are going to be doing the movie, but I can only imagine a Ken Burs/History channel style wouldn’t be nearly as well received in the theaters as a war movie version would. Either way it’s made, it is one hell of a story. One I am very much looking forward to.

We’ve all seen the commercials for Geico. Pretty entertaining, actually. I’ve been a fan. Hell, I’m even a little hooked on the Royksopp song from the airport/moving sidewalk episode (wait, did I just say episode?) I just found out, thanks to that bastion of time wasters IMDB, that they are shooting a pilot for a television series based on the characters featured in the commercials.
Proof: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0981216/
Now, here is my problem with this. Could they make a show out of the premise? Sure. We’ve all chuckled at Encino Man, and Phil Hartman as an Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer was genius. But the issue isn’t about the material, but more the universe and format of it. They have a serious universe setup in the commercials. Granted the concept is ridiculous, but the universe is a very real, very consequence riddled universe. The entire point of the commercials is a comical look at racism and bias. But if you take this and add a laugh track, the juxtaposition of the serious advertisements vs the sitcom entrapments is a bit too jarring. But then again, the parody-like nature of the original Battlestar Gallactica vs the uber thinking involved with watching current incarnation has done well. And many fans have followed suit, switching their brains from seeing Salenas Pappi instead of Pa Cartwright leading the last surviving humans. So it isn’t outside of reason, just outside of probability.
I can only really foresee the Caveman having only so many possible episodes before the show jumps the proverbial Ichthyosaurs:
The Halloween episode where he keeps scaring the kids.
The Alf episode where some scientists try to study him after one of his buddies sells him for research.
And the inevitable pursuit of Geico to have the commercials removed. That could be a good back plot. Mythos episodes. Think of the X-Files episodes where Mulder tries to find out what happened to his sister. But what happens after he wins. Most sitcoms have a love interest that is the main chase for the show. Once that sexual tension is gone, so are the viewers.
Making good TV isn’t easy, but maybe a caveman can do it.
